Celebrating 80 Years of Legacy: Mercedes-Benz Unveils the Most Luxurious Unimog Ever

In collaboration with Hellgeth Engineering, the German automaker has redefined the utilitarian Unimog, transforming it into a symbol of opulence while retaining its legendary off-road prowess.

Built upon the renowned U 4023 platform, this special Unimog retains its heavy-duty features, including portal axles, a flexible chassis, and a three-locking differential system. The heart of the transformation lies under the hood, where Mercedes has replaced the traditional 4-cylinder engine with a 7.7L OM 936 6-cylinder diesel engine. This upgrade boosts power to 297 hp, delivering exceptional performance and towing capabilities far surpassing its predecessors.

This bespoke Unimog blends ruggedness with premium SUV elegance. Its aggressive design features a refined grille, front bumper, and side steps. The 20-inch beadlock wheels, matte gray finish, and exclusive LED lighting system give it a modern edge. Notably, Mercedes has replaced traditional mirrors with the advanced MirrorCam digital system, enhancing visibility in the most challenging terrains.

Inside, the cabin sheds its rugged origins for a modern, luxurious space. Premium leather upholstery with contrast stitching and subtle LED ambient lighting elevate the interior to new heights.

Originally designed for post-WWII agricultural use in Germany, the Unimog was taken over by Mercedes-Benz in 1951. Over the past 80 years, it has primarily served in rescue, military, public utility, and extreme off-road racing like the Dakar Rally, with luxury never being part of its DNA.

Mercedes confirms this luxurious Unimog is more than a concept. It will be delivered to a special client for real-world testing next year. If well-received, this Unimog could pioneer a new era, merging extreme off-road capability with unparalleled luxury.
