Enthusiast Spends Fortune on 2003 Ferrari Enzo, Drives Only 966 KM Before Passing Away

This Ferrari Enzo is a prized piece from the exclusive collection of the late Phil Bachman, who passed away last year. Acquired in 2003, Bachman drove the car a mere 1,000 kilometers during his ownership, preserving its pristine condition.

Phil Bachman, a Tennessee-based Ferrari collector, purchased this Ferrari Enzo in 2003. However, he wasn’t content with leaving it stock. He called the factory in Italy and made his desires clear.

This car enthusiast made multiple trips to Maranello to ensure the engineers and designers adhered to his specific requests. He even had the opportunity to personally assemble some components of the car.

A brief note about Phil Bachman: the owner of four dealerships across four towns in Northeast Tennessee, he became the youngest Cadillac dealer in America at 29. However, his heart belonged to Italian sports cars. His wife, Martha, shared this passion.

Phil began collecting Ferraris in 1984, at age 47, and became an active member of the Ferrari Club of America. Most of his cars were painted in his favorite color, yellow, and this 2003 Enzo was no exception.

Finished in striking Giallo Modena yellow, this car proves not all Ferraris need to be red. It features a red leather interior with Daytona-style seats and yellow accents, matching the exterior paint.

This is one of only 400 Enzos produced from 2002 to 2004. Just 127 were made for the U.S. market, and only 36 were painted in Giallo Modena DS 4305. Its exclusivity is further heightened, as only 11 yellow Ferrari Enzos were ever delivered to America.

Moreover, it’s one of the few Enzos customized at the factory and the most optioned example. Phil Bachman spared no expense, ensuring no other car would be like his.

Unique details include polished engine bay struts, body-colored lower sills, and a rear diffuser instead of the standard black components. A gleaming chrome Enzo Ferrari signature badge sits at the rear, alongside the Prancing Horse emblem.

The proven 6.0-liter V12 engine powers this yellow Ferrari, producing 651 hp (660 PS) and 485 lb-ft (657 Nm) of torque.

These figures translate to a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.1 seconds, a quarter-mile run in 11.0 seconds at 133.6 mph (215 km/h), and a top speed of 221 mph (355 km/h). These numbers remain impressive even by today’s standards.

The car’s six-speed F1 automated manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels. However, it seems to have forgotten its capabilities, covering only 649 miles in 23 years.

The Enzo, a brainchild of Ferrari’s Luca di Montezemolo and named after the company’s founder, was the first production car with a fully integrated control system, continuously communicating to enhance performance.

Simple math reveals it traveled just 28 miles annually. Perhaps that’s the round trip from the nearest Ferrari dealership to its climate-controlled garage, where it spent its entire life.

Phil Bachman passed away in August 2025, and his car collection is now up for auction. This 2003 Ferrari Enzo will be auctioned in January at the Kissimmee event in Florida. Such cars typically sell for $650,000 to $750,000.

However, low-mileage, original, and well-maintained Enzos can fetch over $1 million. The most expensive sale was a $6 million auction at RM Sotheby’s in Monterey in 2015.

The original factory seats, upholstered in Nero leather with Enzo Ferrari’s embroidered signature, and the optional Schedoni luggage are included. A Ferrari Classiche certification accompanies the red book.

The next owner will need a separate trailer for all the awards they’ll bring home. This Ferrari won Best in Show at the 2007 FCA/T. Rutland’s Parts Picnic & Concours in Atlanta, Georgia, and Platinum and Best in Show at the 2008 Celebration Exotic Car Festival in Orlando, Florida.

It also won the WinStar Cup in 2010, first place in the Ferrari Late class at the 2010 Keeneland Concours d’Elegance, and first place in the Supercar class at the 2011 Cavallino Classic.

In 2016, it earned Platinum and Best Supercar at the Ferrari Classiche Concours during Finali Mondiali in Daytona, and that’s just part of its award collection. This highly customized Ferrari Enzo comes with a car cover, owner’s manual, tool kit, and a binder of documentation, including photos and detailed information.
