In reality, Toyota also offers hybrid versions of other models in Vietnam, such as the Innova Cross and Corolla Altis. However, these models’ hybrid versions have not received price adjustments.
These price reductions for Toyota’s hybrid models are a result of the amended Special Consumption Tax Law, passed by the National Assembly on June 14, 2025. As of January 1, 2026, self-charging hybrid vehicles (HEV) will be subject to a special consumption tax rate of 70% compared to their gasoline counterparts. To qualify for this tax reduction, self-charging hybrid vehicles must meet the condition that gasoline consumption does not exceed 70% of the total energy used, as stipulated by the government. Previously, only plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) were eligible for this tax incentive.
Toyota Vietnam is the first automaker to announce price reductions for its hybrid models in 2026. Meanwhile, other brands selling hybrid vehicles in Vietnam, such as Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Haval, have remained silent on the matter.
With the new special consumption tax rate, hybrid vehicles in Vietnam are expected to experience a surge in sales in 2026. According to reports from VAMA and Hyundai Thanh Cong, Vietnamese consumers purchased over 14,000 hybrid vehicles in 2025. Among these, 8,389 were Toyota hybrids, accounting for nearly 60% of the market share.
Also in 2025, the top 5 best-selling hybrid models in Vietnam were the Toyota Innova Cross HEV (3,021 units), Toyota Corolla Cross HEV (2,926 units), Suzuki XL7 Hybrid (2,633 units), Honda CR-V RS e:HEV (1,888 units), and Toyota Camry 2.5 HEV (1,595 units).
