Global battery giant CATL has recently unveiled Tianxing II, a specialized battery line for light commercial vehicles, boasting impressive technical specifications.

The highlight of this launch is the 45kWh sodium-ion battery pack, featuring an energy density of 175Wh/kg and an impressive lifespan of over 10,000 charge-discharge cycles. This groundbreaking product is the first in the world to meet China’s new national standard GB 38031-2025, ushering in a new era for small electric vans and light trucks.

Conquering Extreme Cold Climates

The most remarkable feature of the Tianxing II is its resilience in harsh weather conditions. While traditional lithium batteries often suffer performance degradation in cold temperatures, CATL’s sodium-ion battery maintains up to 90% of its capacity even at -40°C. Remarkably, it allows normal charging even when completely frozen at -30°C. This advantage stems from the use of sodium ions, a material 1,000 times more abundant in the Earth’s crust than lithium and 20 times cheaper to extract, promising long-term cost optimization for transportation businesses.

Versatile Solutions for Diverse Transportation Needs

In addition to the sodium-ion variant, the Tianxing II series offers three lithium-ion battery options tailored to specific use cases. The Fast Charging version is ideal for busy vehicle owners, requiring only 18 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%. For long-haul transportation, the Long Range version impresses with a single battery pack capacity of up to 253kWh, enabling an extraordinary 800km range on a single charge. When paired with the exclusive Taishan pack architecture, vehicle weight can be reduced by up to 260kg, significantly increasing payload capacity and energy efficiency.

Furthermore, CATL introduces the High-Temperature Fast Charging variant, targeting hot climate regions and autonomous vehicle fleets operating continuously. This version features a customized liquid cooling thermal management system, ensuring stable battery performance and extended lifespan even during rapid charging in hot weather. It strikes an ideal balance between reliability and low operating costs, making it perfect for supermarket and residential area delivery services with high daily mileage requirements.
