The global off-road community is abuzz with excitement as reports confirm the revival of the legendary Mitsubishi Pajero.

Exclusive data from Drive reveals that a prototype has been registered in South Australia under the official name “Mitsubishi Pajero 2025”. Notably, authorities distinguish this as a pure Pajero model, not the commonly seen Pajero Sport variant. The 44th unit in this pre-production series bears a VIN starting with “MMA”, confirming its production at Mitsubishi’s Thai facility, sharing the line with the Triton.

Departing from the previous generation’s monocoque chassis, the Pajero 2026 marks a transformative shift with a body-on-frame structure. This upgrade not only inherits the Triton’s renowned durability but also positions the Pajero in a significantly higher segment than the current Pajero Sport.

The standard variant is expected to house a twin-turbo 2.4L diesel engine, delivering 201 hp and 470 Nm of torque. These specifications signal Mitsubishi’s intent to challenge the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado directly. In line with electrification trends, the brand is also considering a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain to enhance versatility across diverse terrains.

Currently undergoing rigorous testing in Australia, camouflaged Mitsubishi Pajero 2026 units are frequently spotted on demanding routes. Frequent appearances in Ralliart’s media materials suggest an imminent global debut.

Scheduled for a late 2026 or early 2027 launch, this new-generation SUV aims to reclaim Mitsubishi’s dominance in the fiercely competitive off-road segment.
