Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X VIN 001 Sells for $2.6 Million, Purchased by Esteemed Entrepreneur

Despite its premium price tag, the formidable ZR1X is offered at a staggering one million dollars less than last year’s Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, and even undercuts the six-year-old Stingray in cost.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X VIN 001 has been auctioned off through Barrett-Jackson at their first event of the year. Now, the most powerful Corvette ever produced will belong to the highest bidder, fetching a staggering $2.6 million. As is tradition, the entire proceeds will be donated to charity.

This “insane” supercar was expected to sell for much higher than what transpired in Scottsdale. Last year, a ZR1 fetched $3.7 million. Previously, the Corvette Z06 VIN 001 was auctioned for $3.6 million, leading many to believe this car would break records, reaching $4 million or surpassing the $3.7 million mark.

Even the Stingray, rated by the manufacturer at 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet (630 Nm) of torque, commanded a higher price six years ago at auction. In 2020, the Stingray was purchased for $3 million.

Despite the lower sale price, it will still be the most expensive ZR1X ever sold. Fortunately, dealership resale prices haven’t reached that level yet, though some ZR1s have sold for up to $360,000, nearly $110,000 above the MSRP.

This particular vehicle is a Stars and Steel Edition ZR1X, hand-painted by specialists in Warren, Michigan. It features a matte steel finish with stars on the hood and stripes on the roof and trunk, honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States. It also commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a day that shook America.

In just 2 minutes, the bidding reached $2 million, and it seemed poised to soar. However, interest in the car remained restrained, and the final price settled at $2.6 million. This year, like the previous two, the auction winner is a familiar face.

Rick Hendrick, owner of a NASCAR team and former racer, took home the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X. He already owns the ZR1 VIN 001 in both coupe and convertible versions, the Z06 VIN 001, and the Stingray VIN 001.

Hendrick also owns the C7 ZR1, purchased through a Barrett-Jackson auction in 2019. Over the years, he has acquired a total of 38 charity vehicles sold through Barrett-Jackson, so expectations were high that he would add the ZR1X to his collection.

Now, he’ll return home with the most powerful Chevrolet Corvette ever built by General Motors. Its powertrain includes a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 LT7 engine paired with an electric motor mounted on the front axle in a hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 1,250 horsepower and 1,292 Nm of torque.

An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends all that power to the road through all four wheels. The ZR1X and E-Ray are the only four-wheel-drive Corvette C8 models. The ZR1X accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.0 seconds, completes the ¼ mile in under 9.0 seconds at 150 mph (241 kph), and reaches a top speed of 233 mph (375 kph).

At least, that’s what GM told us during the ZR1X’s official launch. On a meticulously prepared track at US 131 Motorsports Park, this supercar completed the ¼ mile in a staggering 8.675 seconds and accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.68 seconds.
