The latest images from the January 2026 Industrial Property Gazette have unveiled a promising compact electric vehicle from VinFast.
Based on its distinctive design elements, observers speculate this could be a mid-cycle refresh of the VF 5 or an entirely new variant built on the same platform.
While there’s no official name yet, the filing of this design patent signals VinFast’s strategic move to refresh its core product lineup this year.
The most striking feature of this new model is its completely redesigned lighting system, which adopts a more modern and sleek aesthetic. The front headlights are narrower and positioned lower, giving the vehicle a sporty, aggressive look. It’s likely the new model will feature full LED lighting. Notably, VinFast’s signature wing-shaped light strip has been refined, enhancing the front fascia’s visual appeal.
Along the sides, the two-tone, machined-finish alloy wheels add a premium and dynamic touch, a significant upgrade from the current single-color design. The rear end also receives updates for consistency, with slimmer taillights and a horizontal light bar across the VinFast logo, likely integrating LED technology rather than being a decorative plastic strip. The functional lights, such as turn signals and reverse lights, are more compact, promising a modern visual effect and improved nighttime visibility.
In terms of specifications, the current VinFast VF 5 boasts urban-friendly dimensions with a 2,513 mm wheelbase and 182 mm ground clearance. Inside, the cabin features dual digital displays and a signature rotary gear selector. Industry experts anticipate the mid-cycle refresh will introduce upgraded interior materials or additional convenience features to enhance user experience.
Performance-wise, retaining the 134 hp motor and 37.23 kWh battery (over 300 km range) keeps the VF 5 competitive. However, improvements in battery capacity or charging speed would be a significant advantage.
Priced at 529 million VND, the VF 5 is VinFast’s second best-selling model, trailing only the VF 3. Launching a refreshed version with enhanced aesthetics and technology is a strategic move to maintain its appeal and meet rising customer expectations in the compact EV segment. If these design updates materialize, the 2026 VF 5 is poised to create a new wave of excitement in Vietnam’s automotive market.
