Recently, coffee magnate Dang Le Nguyen Vu surprised many by personally driving a Toyota Crown Wagon—an extremely rare variant of the 6th-generation Crown series launched in 1979.

While the traditional sedan models are synonymous with diplomatic and VIP transport in Vietnam during the 90s, this Wagon version has become a coveted item among seasoned collectors due to its unique design and limited production numbers.

The coffee king’s vehicle boasts a sleek black exterior, preserving the sharp, majestic lines characteristic of late 70s Japanese design. This creates a striking contrast against the modern vehicles on today’s streets.

The most striking feature of this Toyota Crown Wagon is the contrast between its understated exterior and vibrant interior. The cabin is upholstered in bold red leather, exuding power and individuality. Notably, this Crown Wagon is not a mere display piece but has been meticulously customized to cater to its owner’s lifestyle. Thoughtful details like the cigar ashtray and coffee compartment reflect a deep connection between the vehicle and Mr. Vu’s personal habits. It transcends being just a mode of transport, becoming a private sanctuary that embodies his unique character.

The 6th-generation Toyota Crown holds significant historical value for the Japanese automaker as the final series to feature a 4-cylinder gasoline engine and the first to enter the German market in 1980. Despite being over 40 years old, its mechanical foundation remains impressive. Depending on chassis codes MS110 to MS112, it was equipped with engines ranging from 2.0L to 2.8L. The top-tier variant featured a 5M-EU 2.8L engine with electronic fuel injection, delivering 145 horsepower—an impressive figure for its time, ensuring robust performance across nearly half a century.

Choosing a classic Wagon over high-speed supercars highlights Dang Le Nguyen Vu’s unique automotive philosophy. He values heritage and cultural experiences over material wealth or raw engine power, showcasing a deeper appreciation for automotive legacy.
