What’s good about the Ferrari Portofino M?

To diversify its product line, in 2008, Ferrari unveiled a convertible car line, and they simply named it California. This name revived the name used on the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder in the late 1950s and the 365 California in the 1960s.

Initially, the California was introduced as an affordable model, however, it included many new design improvements from Ferrari, and most importantly, it had 4 seats, which was a luxury for “prancing horse” cars at that time. 10 years later, this car line has a successor – the Portofino, which was introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Ferrari Portofino is also similar to the California with only 1 convertible variant, and it has a hardtop roof, which is very fashionable, as well as convenient, not worrying about long-term use, getting deformed or deteriorating like a soft top.

If the California has been on the market for 10 years, the Ferrari Portofino has only had a lifespan of 6 years, from 2017 to 2023, and it was only discontinued this year. The Ferrari Portofino has 2 versions – the standard version and the mid-lifecycle upgrade, called the Ferrari Portofino M, with its predecessor being the California T.

The “M” in the name of the car stands for “Modificata”, which means “modified” in Italian, referring to the upgrades that Ferrari has made to this convertible supercar, not only in terms of design but also in improving its maximum power.

Compared to the standard version, the Ferrari Portofino M has the most changes at the rear of the car, with a completely redesigned rear bumper, suitable for the revised exhaust system to bring a more interesting sound.

The interior of the Ferrari Portofino M convertible supercar that arrived first in Vietnam still features the characteristic 2+2 style with 2 rear seats that are only suitable for children to sit in.

In addition to that, it also has notable features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen on the dashboard, a steering wheel with integrated function buttons, and an additional screen.

Powertrain

The Ferrari Portofino M convertible supercar is still equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 engine, but it has been retuned to deliver a maximum power of 612 horsepower, an increase of 20 horsepower, and the peak torque of this supercar is 760 Nm, the same as the Ferrari Roma.

With this power, the upgraded version of the Ferrari Portofino convertible supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.45 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 9.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 320 km/h.

In addition, the mid-lifecycle upgrade of the Ferrari Portofino M is also equipped with the latest and most advanced Side Slip Control system and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, with a smaller clutch assembly than the previous 7-speed transmission of the Ferrari Portofino, capable of withstanding higher torque.
