Starlight, Wuling’s groundbreaking electric sedan, announces launch schedule and joins Hongguang Mini EV in Vietnam

The Wuling Starlight model will have both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric (BEV) versions, with the initial deliveries reserved for customers interested in the PHEV variant. The BEV variant is set to debut in early 2024.

SGMW, the joint venture between GM, SAIC, and Wuling, has recently announced the official launch date for the Starlight model. The Wuling Starlight by SGMW will hit the market on December 6. Pre-sales will begin at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November, with prices ranging from 93,800 to 109,800 Chinese Yuan (approximately 13,200 – 15,500 USD).

Wuling’s first electric sedan, Starlight, sets its launch schedule, will it accompany the Hongguang Mini EV to Vietnam?

Wuling is well-known for its most successful electric vehicle, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, which is officially available in Vietnam. They have also recently launched the Wuling Bingo, an affordable hatchback priced at $8,500, directly competing with the BYD Seagull in China.

The Starlight is a 5-seater vehicle with dimensions of 4835/1860/1515 mm (length/width/height) on a wheelbase of 2800 mm. Inside the car, you will find two screens, a 15.6-inch central control screen, and an 8.8-inch display in front of the driver. It operates on Wuling’s Ling operating system. The trunk space is 540L, and there is an additional 33L of storage space beneath the floor. The drag coefficient is 0.228cd.

The Wuling Starlight EV features a 75 kW motor by ESC10 and Qianyi Tech. It has a top speed of 150 km/h and a curb weight of 1600 kg. The battery is a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) type. REPT and Heat Power will be the suppliers. The battery capacity will be disclosed later.

The PHEV variant will come with an LFP battery pack provided by Zenergy and Huating Power. The power output has not been disclosed yet. The PHEV will use a 100 kW motor by Inboer Electric Co., Ltd, while the internal combustion engine of 78 kW is from Liuzhou Saike Tech. The imported PHEV battery pack capacity will be 9.5 kWh, suitable for a pure electric range of 70 km under CLTC conditions, and the top trim will have a 20.5 kWh pack, providing a BEV range of 150 km.
