Yesterday, on March 22, 2024, Toyota Vietnam officially announced the implementation of the “Software Update for Automatic Transmission Control on Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600” recall program.

Specifically, a total of 1,325 vehicles are being recalled by Toyota Vietnam this time. Among them, 930 units of Toyota Land Cruiser 300 were produced from May 11, 2021, to January 9, 2024. For Lexus LX600, there are 395 units produced from August 2, 2021, to December 25, 2023 being recalled.

Vehicle Model Type Code Production Period Quantity (vehicles)
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 VJA300L-GNUVZW From May 11, 2021, to January 9, 2024 930
Lexus LX600 VJA310L-GKULZW From August 2, 2021, to December 25, 2023 395
Total 1,325

According to Toyota Vietnam, the transmission system on the affected vehicles uses a clutch pressure plate to engage the clutch friction plates to the steel plates for power transmission from the engine to the wheels. When the transmission is shifted to the neutral position and the pressure is removed from the clutch pressure plate, there is a possibility that the clutch friction plates may not immediately disengage from the steel plates, causing a portion of the engine power to continue to be transmitted to the wheels. If this condition occurs when the vehicle is on a flat surface and if the driver does not apply the brakes or use the parking brake, the vehicle may move forward at low speed (up to 6.4 km/h), increasing the risk of an accident.

The program will be officially implemented by Toyota Vietnam from March 22, 2024, at all Toyota and Lexus dealerships nationwide. Customers with affected vehicles will receive notifications from Toyota and Lexus dealerships inviting them to bring their vehicles for inspection. Based on the inspection results, customers’ vehicles will have their transmission control software updated. The expected time for inspection and repair/update is approximately 0.5 hours per vehicle and completely free of charge.

For imported Toyota/Lexus vehicles that are not authorized by the manufacturer and fall under the scope of this program, when receiving a request from the owner, Toyota Vietnam will verify the detailed information. After the issue is confirmed and approved, the Toyota or Lexus dealership will proceed with the inspection and update free of charge for the customer.
