BYD Unveils the Shark: A Hybrid Pickup Truck in Cambodia, Just Next Door to Vietnam
BYD Shark (or BYD Shark 6) is the company’s first-ever pickup truck, developed on BYD’s DMO platform – a super-hybrid terrain platform.
With its dimensions of 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height, the Shark is slightly larger than the Toyota Hilux, with a wheelbase that’s 175 mm longer.
The BYD Shark boasts a design reminiscent of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Ranger. Its front end features impressive LED headlights in the shape of a “C,” connected by a large grille and centered with a bold BYD logo.
The flanks of the truck have a muscular appeal, with wheel arches, large mirrors, and wide door sills. The rear end is simpler, with taillights and a central LED strip. A black stripe on the C-pillar adds a touch of personality, connecting to the side window for a sportier look.
In select markets, the BYD Shark’s cabin is equipped with a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen display, capable of rotating vertically, a feature seen on many other BYD models.
The interior also showcases a flat-bottom steering wheel, a central control cluster with a gear shifter, large handles, and sizable buttons/shifters, along with two wireless charging pads for phones. Orange stripes accent various parts of the cabin.
The BYD Shark is powered by a hybrid system, combining a 1.5L gasoline engine with two electric motors to deliver an impressive 320 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.
BYD’s Lithium phosphate Blade batteries provide an all-electric range of approximately 100 km per charge, and when combined with a full tank of fuel, the Shark can travel up to 840 km.
In Cambodia, the BYD Shark is priced at around 56,700 USD (1.43 billion VND). Given BYD’s recent push into the Vietnamese market, it’s likely that the Shark will make its way to Vietnam in the future.
