The days leading up to Lunar New Year’s Eve see the central area of Ho Chi Minh City bustling with people. Crowds flock to famous spots such as Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Bach Dang Wharf (District 1), and the flower market at Phu Nhuan’s park.

As hordes of people visit these attractions, parking services also become overwhelmed. According to Tri Thuc – Znews, parking fees in these areas surged from the morning of the 28th day of the lunar month. Around Nguyen Hue Walking Street, motorcycle parking fees ranged from 20,000 to 25,000 VND, double the usual rate. Car parking fees also increased by 30-40%, reaching 80,000-100,000 VND.

Despite the high parking fees, most cars arriving at the lots after 7 PM had to park on or near the sidewalk due to lot overcrowding. As a result, in the area of the intersection of Huynh Thuc Khang and Ho Tung Mau (District 1), car lanes were packed with vehicles parked in incorrect positions.

From the evening of the 28th, the parking lots around Nguyen Hue Walking Street that were linked to the MyParking app stopped accepting online reservations. This could be due to the surge in vehicles occupying the lots, leaving no vacant spaces.

Mr. Hoang Quoc V. (Ho Chi Minh City) shared with Tri Thuc – Znews that he and his family arrived early at Nguyen Hue at 6 PM to admire the flowers and take commemorative photos. According to Mr. V., the parking fees in this area remain similar to previous years, and the scenes of congestion and crowds are consistent with past experiences.

“Every year, my family comes to see the flowers on the 28th day of the lunar month, and it takes us 15-20 minutes to find a parking spot. The parking fees here have increased, just like in previous years, from 10,000 to 25,000 VND,” Mr. V. added.

At a parking lot near the Hanh Thong Tay market (Go Vap District), motorcycle parking fees also rose to 10,000-15,000 VND. Before the 28th, the parking fees in this area were maintained at 5,000-10,000 VND.

The parking ticket does not display the price clearly; the staff will determine the price for each vehicle, ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 VND.

Compared to previous years, there isn’t a significant difference in parking fees near the flower market or Nguyen Hue Walking Street. These fees are even lower than during the Solar New Year holiday. During that time, car and motorcycle owners visiting Nguyen Hue Walking Street had to pay 60,000-200,000 VND in parking fees.

With an increasing number of people heading to the city center, parking fees are expected to soar even higher on Lunar New Year’s Eve night.
