Amidst the spring atmosphere of Tet Dinh Dau 2017, vintage car enthusiasts in Ho Chi Minh City gathered on Dong Khoi Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Among them, a group of vintage cars consisting of 4 vehicles was parked next to a famous hotel in Vietnam.

In addition, there is also a black Citroen Traction displayed in front of a hotel that is nearly 140 years old.

The display space for vintage cars also exudes a taste of Tet with flowers in the colors of yellow, pink, and red. Citroen Traction is available with engine options ranging from 1.3 liters to 2.9 liters, with a 3-speed manual transmission. The top speed is 100 km/h and fuel consumption is 10 liters/100 km.

Leading the group of vintage cars is the International Harvester Scout, followed by the Citroen DS21…

A green Volkswagen Beetle…

And the Mercedes-Benz 190 lined up right behind.

The International Harvester Scout is known as a model designed for off-road routes and is the main competitor of Jeeps.

Among them, the International Harvester Scout was produced from 1961 to 1980 before production ceased. This vintage car has various versions such as Scout 80, Scout 800, 800A, and the Scout II line.

A bright red International Harvester Scout appeared on the streets of Saigon on the afternoon of the 3rd day of Tet Dinh Dau, belonging to the Scout 800 version produced from 1965 to 1968.

Over the course of 4 years, the Scout 800 had various engine options such as a 2.5-liter and 3.2-liter 4-cylinder engine, a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine, and the most powerful being the V8 engine with a displacement of 4.4 liters.

Also in the striking “red and white” attire alongside the Scout 800 is the rare vintage car Citroen DS21, which was produced from 1963 to 1967.

In French, DS is an abbreviation for Déesse, meaning Goddess, and this model has also been voted the “most beautiful car of all time” by the Classic & Sport magazine.

The Citroen DS made its first public appearance at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, leaving a strong impression on visitors. Within the first 15 minutes, there were 743 orders placed, and by the end of the show, this number reached 12,000. After over 20 years of existence (1955-1975), the Citroen D-Series sold nearly 1.5 million units worldwide.

The Citroen DS21 uses a 2.175 cc 5-cylinder engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. One of the highlights of the DS is the hydraulic system used for shock absorbers and transmission, rather than just power steering.

Currently, there are about 5 Citroen DS21s in the Vietnamese market, all of which are carefully preserved by Vietnamese car enthusiasts.

The Volkswagen Beetle is the longest-running car model in the world, first introduced in 1938. Over the course of 65 years, over 21 million Volkswagen Beetles have been produced. This model is also known as the “beetle car” by Vietnamese car enthusiasts.

Motorbikes that were once closely associated with the Vietnamese people, such as the Honda Cub, Honda 67, and Lambretta, also made an appearance at the vintage car gathering on the 3rd day of Tet Dinh Dau.
