Mercedes-Benz S 63 and S 65 AMG ‘vintage’ models, rare and priced up to billions of Vietnamese dong, surprising car condition in Vietnam

There are two S 63 and S 65 AMG cars located at a private car showroom in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. Both cars belong to the previous generation (W221). The S 65 AMG is from 2008 and the S 63 AMG is newer with a manufacturing year of 2012. These cars are made in Germany.

What makes them special is that both cars are brand new and have not been used in Vietnam. The car seats are still covered in plastic. The S 65 AMG is extremely rare, while the S 63 AMG has a larger user base. The price of the S 65 AMG is over tens of billion VND, while the price of the S 63 AMG is lower. A used S 63 AMG from the same year 2012 would have a resale price on the used car market of nearly 2 billion VND. Therefore, it’s not surprising that these unused cars have a much higher price. These cars are not only new but also have collectible value for car enthusiasts.

The 2008 S 65 AMG is the most powerful version of the S-Class available in Vietnam at that time. The engine of this car is a 6.0-liter V12 engine, with a power output of 612 horsepower and a torque of 1,000 Nm, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission and a rear-wheel-drive system.

The 2012 S 63 AMG also has high performance, but the engine is not as powerful as the S 65 AMG. The engine of this version is a 5.5-liter V8 engine, with a power output of 536 horsepower and a torque of 800 Nm, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and a rear-wheel-drive system.

The S 65 AMG has a silver exterior. The iconic 5-spoke star-shaped wheels are a characteristic of the AMG line. Although it’s over 10 years old, the car still has a modern interior design. In front of the driver, there are 2 large screens, including a digital screen behind the steering wheel and another one in the center. The rear seats have a separate screen placed in the middle of the front armrest. The interior is arranged for 4 seats. Despite being focused on performance, the S 65 AMG is equipped with the highest-class amenities in its segment to serve the rear passengers.

The S 63 AMG has a black paint job. The wheels are changed to a new double-spoke star design. The interior of this car stands out with a contrasting two-tone color scheme of cream-black. The interior design of the S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG is almost identical. This S 63 has 5 seats and no rear screens.

Previously, Mercedes-Benz named high-performance sport versions with the AMG suffix at the end, such as Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG. Starting from early 2016, this line of cars was renamed to Mercedes-AMG, for example, the Mercedes-AMG S 63.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam does not distribute the Mercedes-AMG sports versions of the S-Class, but only the luxury line Mercedes-Maybach. At the beginning of 2016, the Mercedes-AMG S 65 had an official price of 12.8 billion VND. After June 2016, due to changes in special consumption tax, this version had a price of nearly 18.2 billion VND.
