Suzuki Group has recently signed a collaboration agreement with SkyDrive to produce flying cars at its factory in Shizuoka. The project is expected to commence in spring 2024.
The Suzuki flying car model falls under the eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) category. This type of aircraft uses electric energy for vertical take-off and landing, similar to a helicopter.

Due to the use of electric energy, the advantage of eVTOL over traditional combustion engine aircraft is its quietness, higher efficiency, and lower environmental pollution. Thanks to its vertical take-off and landing capability, the eVTOL flying car is suitable for urban environments as well as locations with limited space.
However, due to their high mobility, eVTOL flying devices face a variety of legal issues regarding their usage and regulations. Controlling such aircraft is not as simple as driving a car.
SkyDrive is a flying device manufacturer based in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. SkyDrive’s eVTOL product has a square size of 13 x 13 meters, with a height of 3 meters. The cockpit can accommodate 3 people, including a pilot.
The onboard battery allows the flying device to operate within a maximum range of about 15 km, with a top speed of 100 km/h.
