Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the latest iteration of the E-Class, featuring several notable upgrades. This puts the three-pointed star brand ahead of its German rival, BMW, as the next-generation BMW 5-Series has yet to be revealed.

When it comes to the exterior, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class borrows many design elements from its larger sibling, the S-Class. This includes both the overall surface and features such as flat door handles and chrome strips that run across the trunk, connecting the two clusters of taillights.

However, despite being slightly smaller in size compared to the S-Class, the new E-Class boasts a sportier and more dynamic appearance, reminiscent of its smaller sibling, the C-Class. The piano black trim surrounding the front grille and the taillight cluster’s three-pointed star pattern ensure that the E-Class stands out distinctively.

Depending on the selected trim, the grille will either be Mercedes’ ‘Progressive’ type, featuring dozens of small stars, or the ‘Classic’ type, characterized by the familiar horizontal bar grille of Daimler.

Turning our attention to the interior, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class bears more resemblance to the S-Class than the C-Class. The extended wheelbase adds 22mm, resulting in a more spacious interior. The car’s overall length currently stands at 4,949mm. Enhanced legroom further enhances passenger comfort.

However, in terms of the dashboard, the new E-Class shares more similarities with its electric counterparts, the EQE and EQS, rather than its internal combustion engine sibling, the S-Class. The 2024 E-Class comes equipped with a standalone digital instrument cluster and the integrated MBUX infotainment system on the dashboard. Notably, an optional third screen is available in front of the passenger seat for entertainment purposes.

In addition, the 2024 E-Class features a selfie camera, as well as access to apps and games such as TikTok and Angry Birds. To prevent driver distraction caused by the passenger screen, the new E-Class incorporates a “visual shield” that utilizes cameras and an “advanced filter concept” to ensure the driver cannot view the screen’s content. The system monitors the driver’s eye movement and will reduce the brightness of the passenger screen if the driver appears to be looking at it for too long, allowing uninterrupted content viewing for the passenger.

In terms of powertrain, all E-Class versions in Europe are electrified. The base model E200 rear-wheel drive comes equipped with a powerful 201 horsepower petrol engine, while the E200d features a 194 horsepower diesel engine available in both rear-wheel drive and 4Matic AWD. All three versions can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 238 km/h, thanks to the integrated starter-generator that adds an additional 20-23 horsepower.

The plug-in hybrid models available at launch in Europe combine a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine with a powerful 127 horsepower electric motor. The vehicle can travel up to 100 km in pure electric mode.

The plug-in hybrid lineup includes the E300e and E300e 4Matic, generating 308 horsepower, and the E400e 4Matic, offering 376 horsepower. The E400e is currently the fastest model available in Europe, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. However, this may change once the expected AMG versions are released later this year.

In the North American market, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is available in two mild-hybrid versions: the four-cylinder E350 and the six-cylinder E450. The E350 delivers 255 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, while the E450 boasts 375 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.

Pricing for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has yet to be announced.
