The BMW M7 model has long been anticipated by BMW enthusiasts, but the automaker has yet to release a high-performance variant for their flagship sedan. However, the all-new i7 M70 xDrive could be considered a true M car with its impressive specs. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds, 650 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 1,100 Nm, this electric vehicle is a beast on the road.
Despite its weight of up to 2,689 kg, the i7 M70 xDrive is the fastest and most powerful BMW in the fully electric range. It outperforms the M760e xDrive with a 0-60 mph time that is 0.8 seconds faster and even surpasses the newly introduced BMW XM Label Red.
Under the hood, the i7 M70 is equipped with a powerful electric drivetrain. The front electric motor generates 255 horsepower, while the rear motor delivers a maximum output of 483 horsepower, making it the most powerful electric motor ever produced by BMW. In Sport Mode, the combined power and torque reach an impressive 1,014 Nm, but it can go as high as 1,100 Nm with the Launch Control feature activated.
The i7 M70 features a 101.7 kWh battery pack, similar to the i7 xDrive60. BMW estimates that the vehicle will have a range of approximately 472 km, and users can further optimize the range by activating the “Max Range” mode. With the DC fast charger, the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in just 34 minutes.
In addition to the upgraded drivetrain, the i7 M70 also receives enhancements to the M chassis and suspension system. The body rigidity has been reinforced, and advanced technological elements such as Rear-Wheel Steering and Active Stability Control are available.
The braking system has been upgraded with M-Sport blue brake calipers, and high-performance tires are now an option. The exterior design features characteristic elements such as a large grille and powerful air intakes. The M Performance Professional package offers additional features like a black M rear spoiler and a black accent strip between the taillights.
The i7 M70 xDrive will be available at BMW dealerships in the US in the second half of 2023. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it is expected to be the most expensive model in the 2024 7-Series lineup.
