VinFast, an emerging Vietnamese car brand established in 2017, has made remarkable progress in just 5 years. With a wide range of car models across all segments, the brand is now focusing on electric vehicles.

VinFast, a young Vietnamese car brand established in 2017, has achieved significant milestones in just 2 years. The brand successfully built a factory, established a nationwide dealer network, and introduced high-quality models at competitive prices.

Having established its presence with models like Lux A, Lux SA, and Fadil, VinFast has now officially shifted its production focus to electric vehicles, marking the end of its petrol car production.

In the Vietnamese market, while a few remaining units of the Lux A are being sold by select dealers through clearance sales, VinFast offers an impressive lineup of business products, including the following models:

VinFast VF e34 – the brand’s first electric car model, was launched at the end of 2021 with over 3,600 orders on the first day. Based on the platform of the American GM Bolt model, this B-segment CUV offers a starting price of 710 million VND, directly competing with Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Mazda CX-30. With its spacious interior, a range of nearly 300km per charge, and proven durability, the VinFast e34 stands out in its segment.

VinFast VF8 – an electric crossover model introduced in 2021 and delivered to customers in 2022. With a starting price of 1.1 billion VND, the VF8 competes head-to-head with vehicles like Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-8. The VF8 offers powerful performance, a 10-airbag safety system, advanced ADAS driving assist technology, and a range of over 400km per charge.

Recently, alongside signing bulk car sales contracts for VF e34 and VinFast VF8, VinGroup has ventured into the technology car business by establishing a company called Taxi xanh GSM. This new venture aims to provide VinFast electric cars as well as rental services to other taxi companies.

VinFast VF9 – a large SUV model that was delivered right after the VF8 in 2023. Comparable to D-segment SUVs like the VinFast Lux SA, Toyota Fortuner, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, the VF9 is positioned as VinFast’s most premium electric model to date. With modern design, advanced safety features, spacious seating for 7 people, and impressive performance, the VF9 competes confidently in terms of both performance and safety.

VinFast VF5 – a compact B-segment hatchback that was introduced in 2023. With its solid performance, competitive price point (around 500 million VND), and free registration fee policy for electric cars, the VF5 offers a compelling option in the market compared to other B-segment sedans like the Toyota Vios or Hyundai Accent.

The VF5 aims to target urban users with its affordable price, a range of over 300km, and sufficient conveniences for daily commuting or weekend trips without constraints.

VinFast VF3 – an ultra-compact mini car measuring only 3.1m in length, which was recently unveiled by VinFast. This model aims to cater to the basic transportation needs of the masses. The VF3 is expected to start taking reservations in the third quarter of this year, with deliveries planned for 2024. With its distinctive square design and attractive features, the VF3 aims to popularize car ownership and become the national car of Vietnam.

Though the VF3 is compact, it can comfortably accommodate 5 passengers and primarily targets couples or single individuals. With its affordable pricing and sufficient features, the VF3 is poised to redefine the A-segment hatchback market and build on the success of the VinFast Fadil.

VinFast has also unveiled the VF6 and VF7 earlier this year at the VinFast Global EV Day event. However, specific details about the VinFast VF4 are still unknown. Based on their names, the VF6 and VF7 likely differ in terms of specifications and are positioned in the B+ and C segments, respectively.

While there is limited information available, leaked images of the VF6 and VF7 have started to appear on social media. This suggests that the official launch is imminent, and consumers may be able to place deposits for these models as early as July, with deliveries expected in 2024. Offering a wide range of electric vehicle products, VinFast aims to cover all segments from A-segment minicars to D+ segment SUVs.

Compared to other car brands in Vietnam, VinFast is at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution. While mainstream and luxury brands are still testing the market with hybrid models or limited electric car offerings, VinFast has boldly transitioned to a fully electric vehicle business.

The company has also made significant investments in charging infrastructure. VinFast’s biggest advantage lies in its extensive network of electric charging stations nationwide, along with a unique battery rental policy that reduces costs and ensures a seamless user experience. However, consumer habits are still aligned with petrol cars, and transitioning to electric cars will require time for users to adjust and overcome challenges associated with charging infrastructure.
