Ford improves pedestrian detection with enhanced stopping technology

Ford, the American automotive company, has recently enhanced its Pre-Collision Assist technology, aiming to mitigate the impact of accidents and potentially eliminate frontal collisions with pedestrians.

Using radar and camera technology to scan the roads, Pre-Collision Assist can detect pedestrians and vehicles. If there is a risk of collision, the system will emit a warning to the driver. In cases where the driver does not respond in time, the system can automatically apply the brakes to help minimize the severity or even avoid certain collisions.

Ford enhances its collision avoidance technology with a focus on pedestrian detection.

Pre-Collision Assist is designed to prevent rear-end collisions with other vehicles at any speed, while its special pedestrian detection feature helps drivers avoid pedestrians at lower speeds. This system can effectively reduce the severity of forward collisions and even prevent certain types of forward collisions.

While this new system is particularly helpful in unexpected situations, it is not intended to replace drivers entirely. It does have limitations in low light conditions, nighttime, harsh weather, vehicles moving in different directions, and certain weather conditions.

Initially, Ford will introduce Pre-Collision Assist to the European market with the 2015 Mondeo model, as pedestrian protection laws in Europe are relatively strict. However, Ford has plans to implement this technology across all of its products worldwide in the future.
