Suzuki is a highly popular car model in the Indian market. The company has plans to introduce two new SUV models, codenamed Y43 and Y17, in the near future.

One of the new models, Y43, will belong to the A-segment SUV category and will compete with the Hyundai Exter. On the other hand, Y17 will be a large SUV model based on the Suzuki Grand Vitara, featuring a hybrid drivetrain.

Suzuki currently lacks an A-segment SUV in its product lineup. Hence, the introduction of Y43 is expected to address this gap and achieve impressive sales figures.

The Managing Director and CEO of the Maruti Suzuki joint venture in India, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, mentioned that there are approximately 55 SUV models in the Indian market, while Suzuki only offers 4 models. Consequently, the company is committed to expanding its product range.

Previously, the focus of Maruti Suzuki’s joint venture was on distributing and developing hatchback models with SUV-style designs and high ground clearance. However, the company is now shifting its strategy towards true multi-purpose sports cars, targeting popular options like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch in India.

This change in business strategy followed the achievement of 1 million unit sales in Suzuki’s large SUV segment in 2023. Furthermore, Suzuki’s cumulative sales of all models exceeded 2 million cars in India.

Suzuki expects that the two SUV models, Y17 and Y43, will contribute approximately 25,000 units to the annual sales of the Maruti Suzuki joint venture. However, Suzuki has not revealed much information about these new models. It is known that the Y17 model may be launched in 2025, with an expected price range of 1.5 – 2.5 million Rupees (equivalent to 438 – 730 million VND). As for the A-segment SUV model, Y43, it may be launched later, around 2026 – 2027.
