Yesterday, on February 6th, 2024, VinFast Manufacturing and Trading Joint Stock Company announced the recall of 5,912 VF5 Plus cars. These cars were produced by VinFast from March 2023 to December 2023 to replace the combination switch (left-hand wiper on the steering wheel).

Through regular product testing and analysis, VinFast has discovered that the front lights on some VF5 Plus cars may turn off if the driver forcefully activates the combination switch (left-hand wiper) to turn on the left turn signal, potentially reducing temporary visibility. This phenomenon only occurs when the car is operating at speeds of 50-55 km/h at night and the lights are in automatic mode (auto – automatically turn on in the dark). After the driver turns off the left turn signal, the front lights function normally again. This phenomenon does not occur if the driver turns on the lights in regular mode, without using the Auto mode.

After coordinating with relevant parties to investigate and thoroughly examine, VinFast has determined that the cause of this phenomenon is a design flaw in the control circuit board from the component supplier. Specifically, the combination switch contains a control circuit board with a shorter contact surface area in AUTO mode compared to the other positions. During usage, the contact pins can shift outwards, causing signal loss and temporarily turning off the front lights. The solution to this problem is for the supplier to produce a new combination switch with an appropriate contact surface area to replace it free of charge for customers.

As of now, VinFast has recorded one case of a car sold in the market with this issue, but no incidents have occurred. In order to ensure the highest safety for customers and adhere to strict and professional quality control procedures, VinFast has decided to recall all 5,912 VF5 Plus cars produced and sold in Vietnam from March 2023 to December 2023 for inspection and free replacement of the combination switch (left-hand wiper).

Currently, VinFast has reported the information and requested approval for the VF5 Plus car recall plan from the Vietnam Register. Starting from February 19th, 2024, customers can bring their cars to VinFast showrooms and service centers nationwide for inspection and free replacement of the combination switch (left-hand wiper).

VinFast will directly notify each affected owner to arrange a suitable schedule for car inspection. Information about the recall program will also be publicly posted on VinFast’s website and other media outlets.

The estimated time for inspection and replacement of components is about 40 minutes. During the wait for the new switch to be installed, VinFast advises customers not to use the “Auto” mode for the lights, but to turn them on using the regular mode to avoid experiencing the aforementioned phenomenon.
