Porsche is one of the first car manufacturers to prove that hybrid cars can bring excitement with the launch of the 918 Spyder hypercar. It has been almost a decade since the production version was officially released, but that doesn’t mean the successor hypercar will be launched soon.
Porsche had created the 919 Street in 2017 with the idea of producing a commercial version of the 919 Hybrid race car. However, it was just a clay model that was never put into production to some extent showing the brand’s ambition.

Marcos Marques, Porsche’s eFuels project manager, recently revealed that the German brand has plans for a flagship model with a twin-turbocharged 5.0L V8 engine, producing 750 horsepower. However, this is also just a clay model. The timing of the successor hypercar seems to depend on timing factors.
Michael Steiner, member of the Porsche R&D board, told Motor Trend that the new supercar won’t be ready until near the end of this decade. Porsche is focusing on the development of next-generation batteries with its subsidiary Cellforce and the technology will be introduced in the next two years.

It is unclear whether the replacement for the 918 Spyder will be an electric or hybrid vehicle. Meanwhile, Porsche is finalizing the Macan EV for 2024. The 718 Boxster/Cayman will become a pair of electric sports cars in 2025, while the next-generation Cayenne has been announced to be a three-row electric vehicle slated for around 2027.
