Traffic Safety Education for Preschoolers: Honda Vietnam’s Initiative
Aligned with the government’s vision of “ZERO road traffic fatalities” by 2045 and Honda’s global goal of “ZERO traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles” by 2050, Honda Vietnam (HVN) has been focusing on building and enhancing traffic safety (TS) awareness among the nation’s future generations, particularly preschoolers, who are at a formative age of developing awareness, exploring their surroundings, and beginning to participate in traffic.
Accordingly, the “I Love Vietnam” program for preschool education has been successfully implemented in 63 provinces/cities, with its format and content tailored to the worldview of young children at this educational level.

To share experiences, evaluate, enhance, and standardize TS education in preschools, the Closing Conference of the “I Love Vietnam” program in preschool education for the period 2020-2024 was held on March 22, 2024, with the participation of Mr. Nguyen Ba Minh – Director of the Department of Preschool Education, Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Khuat Viet Hung – Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, and Mr. Motofumi Marutani – Deputy General Director of Honda Vietnam.
Overview of the Closing Conference of the “I Love Vietnam” program in preschool education for the period 2020-2024
At the Conference, the parties summarized the implementation of the program during the four years of collaboration, exchanged experiences, and discussed plans for the future. The event marked the continuous efforts of all parties in implementing the program and successfully expanding it to 63 provinces/cities nationwide, adding 58 provinces/cities compared to the first year of implementation in 2020-2021.

The program has received positive feedback and enthusiastic support from teachers due to its diverse and comprehensive materials, which have been professionally designed to engage young children and help them absorb the content effortlessly, including animated films and comics like “Traffic Fun,” traffic models, and traffic role-playing kits.
By the end of this phase, over 9.6 million young children in nearly 12,000 preschools nationwide have been educated about traffic safety, fostering their awareness and mindset for safe participation in traffic. Notably, to honor outstanding collectives and individuals involved in implementing the program at the local level during the period 2020-2024, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) assessed and awarded certificates of merit to 46 outstanding collectives and 8 individuals nationwide.

Within the framework of the Conference, management staff and teachers from preschools also discussed and exchanged experiences and teaching methods for TS education among young preschoolers, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and quality of TS teaching and learning, helping children gradually develop an understanding and awareness of safe traffic participation and self-protection in traffic situations.

HVN hopes that through the active implementation of the “I Love Vietnam” program in preschool education, the “I Love Vietnam” program in general and TS education for children in particular will maximize their effectiveness in helping children establish a worldview of TS, thereby gradually shaping and enhancing the future generation’s awareness of safe and civilized traffic participation.
