Ahead of its official debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the first images of Mazda’s all-electric sedan have surfaced on Chinese social media, revealing the name and design of the midsize model. It will be offered in a pure electric variant called the Mazda EZ-6 and a range-extended variant called the Mazda EZ-60.
Set to arrive in China next year, more details about Mazda’s electric sedan will be revealed following its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show in China, which opens today (April 25).
The leaked images give us a glimpse at the sedan’s swoopy shape and distinct character lines, reminiscent of designs seen from other Changan-owned brands.
We can also see a full-width taillight stretching across the rear end, sitting below a subtle rear spoiler. Mazda is likely to incorporate its signature grille with a pair of sharply-styled headlights.
Changan Mazda previously announced two 2024 model launches, internally codenamed as the J90A (EV) and J90A-REEV (plug-in hybrid). This will be followed by the J90K and J90K-REEV in 2025. Mazda has trademarked the EZ-6 and EZ-60 names in China, with the EZ-6 likely to be the name for the electric sedan and the EZ-60 for a pure electric SUV.
In Europe, the Japanese carmaker recently trademarked the Mazda 6e name, sparking speculation of a new generation for the midsize sedan. It remains to be seen if this model is related to the upcoming Changan-developed sedan, or if it will be a separate product designed specifically for Western markets.
