Authorities in Nghe An province have arrested Tran Thi H. (born 1997, residing in Vinh city, Nghe An province) for alleged fraud and appropriation.

On July 28, the Investigation Agency of the Nghe An Provincial Police received reports from several citizens related to a case of fraud and appropriation through the sale of automobiles.

Specifically, after purchasing automobiles from the manufacturer, many individuals received calls from someone claiming to be a car dealership employee. This person informed them about a tax refund promotion and offered accessory packages equivalent to 10% of the vehicle’s value, on the condition that customers must provide their cars and paperwork to the individual to process the refund.

Gullible and trusting, several individuals handed over their vehicles and documents to this dealership employee. However, when they tried to retrieve their cars, they were met with unreasonable delays and excuses from the fraudulent individual. Losing patience, they reported the matter to the authorities.

Through verification, the police identified the fraudulent employee as Tran Thi H. (born 1997, residing in Vinh city, Nghe An province). From April 2023 to July 2024, due to losses incurred from online cryptocurrency investments, Tran Thi H. contacted her former clients and devised a scheme to defraud them.

H. fabricated promotional offers to convince customers to hand over their vehicles and paperwork. Upon receiving the documents, she pawned them. Furthermore, she rented cars from self-drive car rental services in Vinh city, Quynh Luu district, and Hoang Mai town, but later pawned these vehicles to repay her debts and fund her cryptocurrency investments.

The investigation revealed that Tran Thi H. had appropriated a total of 13 automobiles, amounting to a value of over 10 billion VND.

The Nghe An Provincial Police are currently investigating the case further.
