The Gumball 3000 2024 supercar journey marks its 25th anniversary and, for the first time, this global event is being held in Asean with five participating countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

According to the schedule, the convoy arrived in Malaysia this afternoon, but an incident occurred, causing the cars to be temporarily detained at the Sadao border checkpoint between Thailand and Malaysia.

Thai media reported that the incident took place at a gas station in Pranburi, north of Prachuap Khiri Khan province in central Thailand. Two cars from the Gumball 3000 2024 convoy stopped to refuel, and the drivers attempted to pay with a credit card, but the transaction was declined. They then paid with cash, including three $50 bills and two $10 bills, totaling $170. However, when the gas station staff went to exchange the money, two of the $50 bills were found to be counterfeit, resulting in only $70 being exchanged. The gas station staff then reported the incident to the police.

The organizers of the Gumball 3000 2024 supercar journey have stated that they are aware of the situation and are prepared to compensate for any damages. They have requested that the gas station withdraw their report. Images circulating online show that the two cars at the gas station were a white Porsche 911 GT3 and a Koenigsegg Regera, but it is unclear if these were the vehicles involved in the incident.

An investigation will be conducted, and authorities have stated that all supercars have been impounded and prevented from passing through the Sadao checkpoint.
