Bugatti has unveiled a new speed record, this time set by the Mistral, a Chiron-based convertible that reached a top speed of 453.91 km/h, becoming the world’s fastest open-top car.
Bugatti Mistral Sets New Open-Top Speed Record, Hitting 454 km/h with the Roof Down
Andy Wallace, Bugattisection signBugatti Pilote Officiel, and Le Mans winner, was behind the wheel of the supercar, exploring its full potential at the Papenburg test track in Germany. Note that the speed of 453.91 km/h he achieved on November 9 was 34 km/h faster than the officially announced top speed of the limited-production Bugatti Mistral.
This impressive feat was accomplished by the unique Bugatti W16 Mistral World Record Car, priced at a staggering €14,000,000 (US$14,743,700). This figure is nearly three times the starting price of the $5 million supercar, despite its stunning paint job and unique features.
The World Record Car package includes Jet Orange graphics on the lower body and matching wheels, contrasting with the black carbon exterior. A similar theme continues inside the cabin with orange accents.
Bugatti did not mention any upgrades to the chassis or the W16 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged engine, which produces 1,578 horsepower in its original form. However, they stated that the record attempt was the result of “many months of intricate preparation and meticulously planned testing to explore the immense capabilities of the car.”
Interestingly, this one-of-a-kind W16 Mistral belongs to a special customer who owns the entire collection of Bugatti world record cars as part of the “Singh Collection” in Punjab, India.
This dream garage includes the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, which hit 431.07 km/h in 2010, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse that reached 408.84 km/h in 2013, and the more recent Chiron Super Sport 300+, which set an impressive record of 490.48 km/h in 2019.
The Bugatti Mistral Roadster is a very special vehicle due to its convertible design, which also contributes to its unusual price tag of up to 118 billion VND. Only 99 units were produced globally, and they were all pre-sold, including one to a Malaysian billionaire.
