Hyundai is set to unveil its new luxury SUV, the Genesis GV90, in 2026. The vehicle will compete in the same segment as the Mercedes GLS and BMW X7.
The Genesis GV90 boasts a host of modern conveniences and has garnered attention for its unique reverse-opening doors, reminiscent of those found on a Rolls-Royce.
However, recent reports suggest that this door design is causing challenges for Hyundai and could impact the GV90’s launch timeline.
According to the original plan, GV90 prototypes should be undergoing real-world testing by now. Instead, the vehicles remain at the R&D center in Namyang, South Korea, due to issues with the doors opening unexpectedly when the car turns or makes left or right turns.
While the reverse-opening doors offer convenience for passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, the lack of a traditional B-pillar raises safety concerns in the event of a side-impact collision or rollover. To address this, Hyundai has developed advanced door hinge reinforcement technology to withstand such impacts.
In addition to its distinctive doors, the Genesis GV90 also features front seats that can rotate 180 degrees to face the rear passengers, facilitating easier communication. Furthermore, the seats are equipped with individual sound systems, allowing each passenger to customize their audio experience.
The GV90 also boasts an advanced radiant heating system. When used in conjunction with traditional air conditioning, this technology can reduce energy consumption by up to 17%, providing a more efficient solution for winter driving.
