Morgan Motor Company Limited is a British automobile manufacturer owned by the Italian investment group, Investindustrial. The company was founded in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan. Morgan is headquartered in Malvern Link, an area of Malvern, and employs approximately 220 people. The company produces 850 cars per year, all of which are hand-assembled. The waiting list for a Morgan car is approximately six months, but it can sometimes be as long as ten years.

What sets Morgan cars apart is their use of wood in the manufacturing process, a tradition that has continued into the 21st century. The frames of Morgan cars are made of ash wood, and this unique feature, combined with their long history, has garnered a lot of interest. There are nearly 20 Morgans in Vietnam, and the country’s “coffee king,” Dang Le Nguyen Vu, is an avid collector of these vehicles, recently adding two more to his fleet.

In addition to the two Morgan cars recently acquired by Dang Le Nguyen Vu, Vietnam’s “coffee king” also purchased a Morgan Plus 4 six years ago, which he only displayed and drove once in December 2023.

Interestingly, during its first appearance on the streets, the car’s hood and interior had been changed from red to black, unlike when it was first imported into the country in 2018. There is another Morgan Plus 4 in Vietnam, featuring a beige exterior and black-dyed spoke wheels.

The Morgan Plus 4, the first of its kind in Vietnam, is powered by a Ford GDI 2.0-liter engine, producing 154 horsepower and 201 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed Mazda transmission.

The black-colored Morgan Plus Four, a convertible sports car owned by “Qua” Vu, features a red hood, chrome accents, and classic spoke wheels with eye-catching yellow wheel locks. The car also sports a British flag on its side.

The Plus Four is Morgan’s second sports car model developed on the new aluminum platform, named “CX-Generation,” which combines a modern aluminum exterior with a traditional ash wood frame. This marks a significant step forward for Morgan after over a century of producing cars with an unchanged exterior design. The Plus Four features numerous round lights, and its body is a blend of ash wood and aluminum.

Under the hood, or rather, under the gull-wing hood of “Qua” Vu’s Morgan Plus Four, lies a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged BMW engine. Depending on the transmission, the car’s performance varies. If you prefer a manual transmission, the 6-speed gearbox will deliver 255 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Opting for the 8-speed automatic transmission from BMW will increase the torque to 400 Nm.

The Morgan Plus Six, on the other hand, is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine, also sourced from BMW, generating an impressive 335 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This engine is shared with the BMW Z4 and the Toyota Supra, both sports cars that have already made their mark in Vietnam.

The Morgan Plus Six comes with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 267 km/h.
