In addition to increasing prices for a range of imported CBU car models, Toyota Vietnam has quietly discontinued the standard E manual transmission version of the Wigo on its website. As a result, this A-segment car now only offers the G version, priced at 405 million VND.
On Toyota Vietnam’s website, the Wigo is now only available in the G trim.
Toyota Vietnam has not yet announced the reason for discontinuing the manual transmission version of the Wigo. According to information from dealers, the company has not officially communicated this decision. However, dealers also stated that the Wigo E version has not been imported to Vietnam for a long time.
With the discontinuation of the manual transmission version, the starting price of the Toyota Wigo is no longer below 400 million VND, unlike its two competitors in the same segment, the Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Morning. The higher starting price, coupled with the reduction in available versions, could put the Wigo at a disadvantage when competing with the two Korean rivals. Currently, the Hyundai Grand i10 in Vietnam offers 6 versions and is priced from 360 – 455 million VND. Meanwhile, the Kia Morning has 5 versions and is priced between 349 – 424 million VND.
The Toyota Wigo returned to the Vietnamese market in June 2023 with 2 versions and prices ranging from 360 – 405 million VND. The new version features a more modern and attractive design, as well as improved convenience and safety equipment.
The Toyota Wigo is equipped with LED headlights, electrically adjustable and foldable mirrors, 14-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch central touch screen, and a 4-speaker audio system. Additionally, the car boasts rare safety features in its segment, such as the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) systems.
Under the hood of the Toyota Wigo is a new 1.2L gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to the wheels through a Dual-CVT automatic transmission.
Since its return to the Vietnamese market, the Wigo has consistently been the second best-selling car in the A-segment, only surpassed by the Hyundai Grand i10. In the first 11 months of 2024, a total of 2,407 units of the Wigo were sold, equivalent to half of the sales of the Hyundai Grand i10 (5,080 units) and four times that of the Kia Morning (732 units).
