A recent offering from a motorcycle importer in Tay Ninh has brought the Honda Wave 125i, made in Malaysia, to the attention of Vietnamese consumers with an expected price tag of over 80 million VND.
According to the importer, the Honda Wave 125i is one of the few Malaysian-made motorcycle models that are available in Vietnam due to the country’s unique export policies, which make it challenging to distribute their vehicles here.
The Honda Wave 125i, also known as the Future 125 Fi in Vietnam, shares a similar design with its domestically assembled counterpart. However, the imported model from Malaysia is slightly larger, measuring 2 mm longer, 1 mm wider, and 10 mm taller, with a 2 mm higher ground clearance, resulting in a 3 kg heavier weight compared to the Vietnamese-assembled Future 125 FI.
Despite the absence of ABS, the Malaysian-made Wave 125i boasts disc brakes on both wheels, unlike the Future 125 FI, which has a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. Additionally, the rear shock absorbers are designed to be stiffer and utilize larger dual shock absorbers compared to the Future 125 FI.
The Wave 125i maintains a chain drive system but features an open chain guard, reminiscent of larger displacement motorcycles. Another notable difference is the tubeless tires on the imported model, as opposed to the tubed tires found on the Vietnamese version.
Both versions come equipped with an analog speedometer, mechanical key, 18-liter storage compartment, front telescopic forks, dual rear shocks, and 17-inch wheels.
Powering the Wave 125i is a SOHC 125cc engine that produces approximately 9 horsepower and 10 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed transmission.
The Malaysian-made Wave 125i meets Euro 4 emission standards and boasts an impressive fuel economy of 1.67 liters per 100 km, adhering to Malaysia’s EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) requirements for engines between 101-150cc (below 2.2 liters per 100 km). In contrast, the Vietnamese version has a fuel consumption rate of 1.47 liters per 100 km and complies with Euro 3 standards.
With an expected price tag of over 80 million VND, the Honda Wave 125i imported from Malaysia carries a similar price to its Thai-imported counterpart but is double the cost of the domestically produced model, which ranges from 30.5 to 32.2 million VND.
