Since its inception in 1996, the Toyota factory in Vinh Phuc province has continuously improved in both quality and quantity. The average production volume has increased from 2 cars/day, equivalent to 212 cars/year, to over 108 cars/day, or approximately 27,000 cars/year. In May 1999, Toyota became the first automobile manufacturer in Vietnam to be awarded the ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System at the factory, and it has consistently maintained and improved the system ever since. Additionally, Toyota Vietnam also became the first automobile manufacturer to have a complete 5-stage production process, including stamping, welding, painting, assembly, and quality control, when it officially launched its stamping workshop in 2003.
Currently, the factory manufactures and assembles 05 models, including Vios, Innova, Fortuner, Veloz Cross, and Avanza Premio. Among these, Vios and Veloz Cross frequently make it to the top 10 best-selling cars in the market, contributing to Toyota’s success in the Vietnamese market. On the eve of its 30th anniversary, the Japanese automaker set another record as the first brand in Vietnam to reach a total production volume of 700,000 vehicles.
Toyota’s successes have significantly contributed to the development of Vietnam’s socio-economic landscape. In addition to increasing the localization rate of its products, Toyota has also implemented support improvement projects for domestic enterprises in the supporting industries field. So far, the Japanese automaker has paved the way for 13 purely Vietnamese suppliers to join the supply chain, with nearly 1,000 types of localized accessories. Moreover, Toyota Vietnam has provided employment opportunities for over 1,500 employees. Thanks to these efforts, Toyota Vietnam has become the only manufacturing company outside of Japan to be awarded the Good Factory 2024 by the Japan Management Association.
