A young car enthusiast recently checked into a hotel in Ninh Binh and shared a glimpse of the hotel owner’s impressive car collection, sparking interest within the domestic car enthusiast community. This well-known garage has been home to a range of vintage and modern vehicles, carefully curated and maintained by the owner over the years.
The entrepreneur’s car collection includes a luxurious SUV, the Bentley Bentayga, and a Rolls-Royce Ghost, alongside two classic cars, with the highlight being a Mercedes-Benz 190SL.
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is a sophisticated two-door convertible produced from May 1955 to February 1963. Internally known as the W121, it was first showcased as a prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show and offered a removable hardtop option.
The 190 SL is a more affordable alternative to the multi-million-dollar Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, sharing its basic design, engineering, details, and fully independent suspension. Both vehicles feature double wishbones at the front and a swing axle at the rear.
Instead of the costly W198 tubular frame of the 300 SL, the 190 SL’s R121 structure utilizes a modified single-unit floorpan derived from the W121 saloon car. It was available as a soft-top or with a removable hardtop.
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL roadster is powered by a naturally aspirated, inline-four SOHC engine with a displacement of 1.9 liters, based on the legendary gullwing 300 SL’s engine but with two cylinders less.
This engine produces a maximum output of 104 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. The powertrain consists of a four-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. With this setup, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL can reach a top speed of 171 km/h.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost, on the other hand, is a first-generation model bearing a Ho Chi Minh City license plate, while the Bentley Bentayga, one of the first of its kind in the country, sports a Ninh Binh license plate, forming a striking pair.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost Series I is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 engine that generates 562 horsepower and 780 Nm of torque. Combined with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately five seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.
