Recently, a new-generation BMW Z4 roadster was spotted cruising the streets of Ho Chi Minh City at night, and it’s far from ordinary. This particular Z4 is no average model—it’s the M40i variant, boasting a more powerful engine and a price tag approximately $87,000 higher than the sDrive30i version that arrived in Vietnam back in 2020. Its appearance has sent shockwaves through the automotive enthusiast community.

Compared to the dozens of BMW Z4 roadsters officially imported, this M40i stands out. Its arrival caused a stir among car enthusiasts, given its rarity and performance capabilities.

The BMW Z4 M40i upon its initial arrival in Vietnam

This BMW Z4 M40i roadster was privately imported five years ago, featuring a Glacier Silver Metallic exterior and a red interior. Originally owned by a customer in Hanoi, it took several years to receive its license plates before being sold to an enthusiast in Ho Chi Minh City.

What sets this BMW Z4 M40i apart is its powerful 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, delivering a maximum output of 382 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 4,500 rpm. This powerhouse enables the roadster to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.

In contrast, the BMW Z4 sDrive30i Msport variant is equipped with a 2.0-liter engine producing 255 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.

The sixth-generation BMW Z4’s soft top can be opened or closed in just 10 seconds while driving at speeds under 50 km/h. Remarkably, the 265-liter luggage compartment remains unaffected whether the roof is up or down.

The new-generation BMW Z4’s design is a refreshing change for those accustomed to older Z4 models in Vietnam. Its standout features include a completely redesigned front fascia with sleek LED headlights and hexagonal daytime running lights. The front and rear bumpers, air intakes, and kidney grille have been modernized for a more aggressive look.
