Having been teased late last year, Toyota has announced full pricing and specification details for the Hilux GR Sport II in the UK. While most GR variants focus on performance, this ute doesn’t quite follow in the footsteps of the GR Corolla or GR Yaris.

Under the bonnet, the familiar 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine continues on, producing 201kW/500Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system as standard. It’s not a barnstorming combination, but Toyota says the ute does have a best-in-segment 3500kg braked towing capacity.

Despite falling short of the EcoBoost-powered Ford Ranger Raptor, Toyota says the GR Sport II is “the best handling Hilux ever, offering more precise steering responses.”

The 2024 Hilux GR Sport II rides on a suspension system that has been “retuned” with monotube shock absorbers. It also has a 20mm suspension lift and swaps out the rear drum brakes for larger discs all around.

In terms of styling, the 2024 Toyota Hilux GR Sport II features an aggressive front end with a black mesh grille dominated by the large ‘TOYOTA’ lettering. It’s flanked by a sporty front bumper and silver-coloured faux bash plate.

Other highlights include black fender flares, an aerodynamic sports bar, and a variety of black exterior accents, from the mirrors through to the door handles. The ute also rides on 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres.

The dark theme continues inside the cabin with black leather and suede sports seats featuring silver contrast stitching. Buyers will also find GR logos, red seatbelts, and aluminium pedals. There’s also a nine-speaker JBL premium sound system and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

In the UK, the 2024 Toyota Hilux GR Sport II is priced from £49,750 ($62,370). Elsewhere in the Hilux 2024 line-up, the range has received a number of specification and equipment upgrades, including an eight-inch touchscreen multimedia display and a reversing camera.
